Weekly Organizer

This weekly organizer bin is great for all teachers. I was having a hard time keeping my materials for my weekly lessons in order. Although many of these bins (like the one below) can be pricey, there are some affordable options. I bought five plastic bins and labeled them Monday through Friday. All my materials, books, and lessons for the week go in the corresponding bin. I love it, it saves me so much time!

All Smiles

So week one of school is over. It wasn’t as easy as I thought it was going to be. As a matter of fact it wore me out completely. I think I forgot about the work load, stress, and patience over summer break. Although, the first week is always the hardest, I still love my job. Making a difference in each one of those lives has to be the most rewarding job out there. Even when you are tired and haven’t had that second cup of coffee, those kids are eager to see you and start their day. I think that’s one thing that keeps me going even when I think I can’t go a second longer. Those kids need me and I guess I need them! You haven’t done your job unless you walk out that door tired.

First Day Jitters

Tomorrow is the official first day back to school. The children will arrive scared, supplies in hand, and anxious about who they will meet. I on the other hand am a little nervous myself. Parents asking questions, putting supplies away, and making sure your new students adjust well to the first day.

So to all you teachers out there, know that I am thinking of you on your first day of school. May you have a great, successful, and enjoyable year.

Missing Alphabet Letters

So after laminating my new alphabet letters and cutting them out, I decided to lay them out on the floor in the order I wanted them hung. I get to “MNO” laid them down and reach for “PQR” and find they are missing. Thinking I misplaced them I went on a man hunt with other teachers in search for my missing letters. I didn’t find them! I even had my co-teacher look through the stack thinking some of the letter stuck together. I’m thinking the company may have left out the letters. I’ll be making a pit stop to the teacher supply store some time tomorrow. Although not all things go as planned, I still love my job. I just get set back occasioanlly!

First Day of Pre-Planning

Today is my first day of pre-planning. A time where teachers get their classrooms set up, decorated, and prepare for their students. I have to admit I am excited! We have a new theme this year and I have bought everything possible to go with that theme. I even went to Walmart and purchased material to make curtains for my room. I am always pretty excited during pre-planning time. Teachers battle against one another about room decor and who has the best room decorations. I’m hoping to earn that title if not this year, than soon! Let’s hope it’s a smooth day!

School Supplies

Now that school is coming to a near, I’ve been out purchasing items for my classroom. After getting to the register and hearing my total of $73.68 I nearly collapsed. What did I buy that could cost so much?

I think others tend to forget that teachers purchase many of their own supplies and decorations. Instead of seeing a reduced cost on our classroom materials it seems they have raised the prices. It’s pretty evident that whoever is determining the prices of these items was never a teacher. If they only knew how much of our own money was put toward items in the classroom, than maybe they would rethink the cost of labels, stickers, and workbooks. Either we need a raise or a discount. Who’s in?

Start The Year Off With A Laugh

Since school hasn’t started yet, I thought I would share a funny story that happened to me in my first year of teaching. I had just picked the children up from lunch and we were going out on the playground. During that time students have the opportunity to use the bathroom and get drinks from the water fountain. One of my students was running out the classroom door and she stopped dead in her tracks and said, “I have to pee. Ahh, I’ll just pee tomorrow.”

That made me laugh because she had no concept of time. Obviously, she will not be waiting to use the restroom for an entire day, but it was cute nonetheless.
